The Benue Rescue and Rebuild Mission gubernatorial campaign has appointed Chief Jerry Aondo, SAN, as Acting Director and Head of the Legal Directorate.
A statement by the campaign office made available to Blueprint noted that the decision, approved by governorship hopeful Prof. Sebastian Tar Hon, SAN (Semawan-u-Tiv), reflects a deliberate strategy to fortify the campaign’s legal and advocacy machinery ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the statement, Chief Aondo, a seasoned lawyer and prominent human rights activist, was elevated to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on October 1, 2024, by the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
” His appointment is widely seen as a major boost to the campaign, given his reputation for legal excellence and his longstanding commitment to defending fundamental rights,” it said.
It further noted that the Legal Directorate under Chief Aondo is expected to play a pivotal role in providing campaign advisory services, coordinating inter-agency advocacy, and pursuing litigation in cases where opponents deliberately infringe on the rights of the project.
“Beyond these responsibilities, he will also oversee the recruitment of other distinguished legal practitioners to strengthen the Directorate’s capacity and ensure that the campaign remains firmly grounded in the principles of justice and fairness,” it said.
Speaking on the development, Prof. Tar Hon SAN emphasized the importance of focus and discipline within the campaign.
He urged the Steering Committee to channel its energy into the objectives of the Benue Rescue and Rebuild Mission, warning against distractions that could arise from frivolous issues.
According to him, the campaign’s strength lies in its vision and its unwavering dedication to rebuilding Benue state.
The governorship hopeful further commended the steering committee and the media team for their dedication and professionalism, noting that their efforts have already laid a strong foundation for success.
He stressed that synergy between the campaign’s legal, media, and advisory arms will be critical in ensuring victory at the polls.
Chairman of the Steering Committee, Dr. Ngutor Anyam welcomed the appointment, describing it as a timely intervention that will energize the campaign’s legal and advocacy strategies.
He expressed confidence that Chief Aondo’s leadership will provide the necessary direction and resilience to navigate the challenges ahead.
