A Homecoming of Faith, Service and Community: Pastoral Visit of the Catholic Bishop of Lafia Diocese to Agon, Obi LGA, Nasarawa State
It was a profound honour and a moment of deep spiritual significance to welcome the Most Rev. Dr. David Ajang, Catholic Bishop of Lafia Diocese, to my village, Agon, in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, during his pastoral visit.
One of the highlights of the occasion was the opportunity to dress His Lordship in the traditional attire of the Tiv people, a gesture that represented our cultural heritage, hospitality, and the pride we take in our identity. It was a privilege to participate in this memorable moment and contribute to making the visit a meaningful experience for our community.
The visit was more than a religious gathering. It was a reminder of the importance of faith, unity, service, and our collective responsibility to the development of our communities. In his ministry, the Church continues to play an important role in promoting education, healthcare, youth development, peace, and care for the vulnerable.
In the spirit of gratitude and community service, I was also pleased to support the occasion with a donation of one cow and 100 tubers of yam towards the celebration. I believe that giving back to one’s community is not merely an act of generosity but a responsibility and an expression of our shared commitment to preserving the values that unite us.
As we continue to seek spiritual growth and community development, I remain convinced that meaningful progress comes when we combine faith with action, preserve our cultural heritage, invest in our young people, and work together for the common good.
My sincere appreciation goes to His Lordship, the community leaders, the parish, the organising committee, and everyone who contributed to the success of this pastoral visit.
May God continue to bless Agon, strengthen the Catholic Church in Lafia Diocese, and grant our community peace, unity, and sustainable development.
Faith in God. Pride in our heritage. Commitment to our community.
